ORLANDO (Jan. 23, 2015) – Orlando hotelier and philanthropist Harris Rosen, President & COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, received the Coretta Scott King A.N.G.E.L. Award at the 32nd Annual Salute to Greatness Awards Dinner presented by The King Center in Atlanta. The King Center, formally known as The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, was established in 1968 by Mrs. Coretta Scott King. The awards ceremony took place on Jan. 17, 2015 (in observance of the late Dr. King’s 86th birthday) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta.
The awards event recognized just four honorees. The Salute to Greatness Award, one of the King Center’s highest honors, was awarded to former President Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States, and to Bernard J. Tyson, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente. The Coretta Scott King A.N.G.E.L. (Advancing Nonviolence through Generations of Exceptional Leadership) Award was given to Harris Rosen and to Aidan Thomas Hornaday, founder of the Aidan Cares Foundation. The award is given in honor of and in keeping with the spirit of the late Coretta Scott King and recognizes a youth or young adult and a youth organization/initiative which exemplifies exceptional leadership in the areas of peace, social justice and nonviolent social change. The honor was established and awarded for the first time in 2013.
Rosen was being recognized for his more than 20 year commitment to the Tangelo Park Program, a three-fold educational community service initiative within the once drug- and crime-ridden Tangelo Park neighborhood of Orlando. In 1992, as Rosen was planning his seventh property, Rosen Shingle Creek, he was struck with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for his many blessings and decided it was time to give back to his community. By 1993, he had created the Tangelo Park Program, a personally funded concept. His innovative program provides free preschool for every two-, three-, and four-year-old child living in the neighborhood and a full community college or four-year college, or a vocational or technical school scholarship for every graduating high school senior. In addition, the program provides a Neighborhood Center for Families where parents can take parenting courses and obtain counseling and other resources to help them become positive role models for their children.
When Rosen created the Tangelo Park Program, the community’s high school dropout rate was 43 percent higher than the national average. Not long after the program began, high school graduation rates soared with an almost zero dropout rate. To date, more than 280 young people have now attended college or vocational school. “I am so honored that the Tangelo Park Program has been recognized by The King Center and I am truly humbled to receive an award given in the spirit of Mrs. Coretta Scott King,” said Rosen. “I will be happy to accept the honor on behalf of the Tangelo Park community and especially all of the youngsters who have worked so hard over the past 20 years to better themselves through the gift of education.”
Established in 1968 by Mrs. Coretta Scott King, The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (“The King Center”) has been a global destination, resource center and community institution for over a quarter century. Nearly a million people each year make pilgrimage to the National Historic Site to learn, be inspired and pay their respects to Dr. King’s legacy. Both a traditional memorial and programmatic nonprofit, the King Center was envisioned by its founder to be “no dead monument, but a living memorial filled with all the vitality that was his, a center of human endeavor, committed to the causes for which he lived and died.” That vision was carried out through educational and community programs until Mrs. King’s retirement in the mid-1990s, and today it is being revitalized.

ORLANDO (Oct. 21, 2014) — The holidays have always been a special time to visit Orlando, but this year, the award-winning Rosen Centre Hotel on International Drive is helping both visitors and locals create a new fun-filled family tradition – Holidays on Ice at Rosen Centre.
Celebrating its inaugural year, Holidays on Ice at Rosen Centre is Orlando’s only professionally produced poolside, outdoor, theatrical ice skating extravaganza. Nowhere else in Orlando – or perhaps the world – can guests sit outdoors next to a beautiful Olympic-size tropical swimming pool, surrounded by swaying palm trees, enjoying average December in Orlando highs of 72.9° F – all while watching an incredible ice skating and light show. This intimate and totally unique setting places guests as close as an arm’s length from a cast of six highly sought-after competitive and professional skaters, hand selected from around the United States especially for the Rosen Centre show.
The holiday-themed spectacular features individual, couples and ensemble performances set to traditional holiday music “with a twist.” Dazzling, custom-designed costumes adorned with sparkling Swarovski™ crystals add to the ambiance of the evening show, particularly during the jaw-dropping opening number, “Let There Be Light,” which literally lights up the entire Rosen Centre hotel – all 24 floors! There’s also a little comedy in the 45-minute production, as skaters present a light-hearted spoof of Olympic skating rivalries.
The show was written and produced specifically for Rosen Centre by professional figure skater, Alex Wilfand, owner of Ice Creative Entertainment. Wilfand has produced ice skating events worldwide for organizations including Disney on Ice, the National Hockey League and Gaylord Palms Resorts, as well as numerous music video and television events.
Wilfand personally selected the cast for Holidays on Ice, including four female and two male skaters, many of whom skate professionally for globally touring productions including Disney on Ice and for major theme parks and entertainment companies around the world. Many are former championship competitive figure skaters and ice dancers who have risen through the ranks of state, regional, sectional and national competitions before turning professional. One member of the cast is currently training for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. The cast comes from as far as Texas, California and Washington State, while one is a Winter Park, Fla. native.
Wilfand is confident that Holidays on Ice at Rosen Centre will make a big splash in Orlando. “There are many things to do in Orlando over the holidays, but there has never been anything like this before. Holidays on Ice is a completely one-of-a-kind show, like nothing you will ever see anywhere else,” he explained. “Guests will be able to see these incredible skaters up close and feel like a part of the show, all while sitting in a beautiful outdoor poolside setting under the stars. It promises to be truly magical.”

Holidays on Ice at Rosen Centre is offered nightly Thursday through Sunday evenings from Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, until Dec. 28, including Christmas Day, as well as on Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve. Two shows are offered nightly on Fridays and Saturdays. Each show includes a pre-show meet and greet with the cast and performances by carolers, as well as a post-performance photo opportunity with the cast. Tickets for Holidays on Ice are $25 per person; children under age 3 are complimentary.

The Holidays on Ice skating rink will be open for public skating Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons during the show season, as well as Dec. 22-30. Price is $12 per person which includes skate rental and two hours of skating time on the synthetic rink. And, for just $15, guests of all ages can book a 15-minute private skating lesson with one of the stars of the show.

Alex Wilfand, owner of Ice Creative Entertainment, has produced ice skating events worldwide for organizations including Disney on Ice, the National Hockey League, Gaylord Palms Resorts and the University of Central Florida, as well as various music video and television events. Skating since age 7, Wilfand trained in Boston and rose through the ranks as a national competitor, along with Olympians including Alexi Yagudin of Russia and Surya Bonaly of France. He toured globally as a soloist with Disney on Ice, portraying some of Disney’s most beloved characters, before being tapped as a global casting consulting for The Walt Disney Company and assisting in the creation of Tokyo Disneyland’s White Holiday Ice Skating Parade. He is a member of the Professional Figure Skaters Association and was recently inducted into the United States Figure Skating Association’s Theatrical Skating Committee. ORLANDO (Oct. 28, 2014) — No longer can the phrase “guilty pleasure” apply to a pampering spa treatment – at least not when that massage, facial or body treatment is booked with a group of friends, family or colleagues at The Spa at Rosen Centre. The award-winning International Drive hotel has introduced a “Spa with a Purpose” program that allows groups to pamper themselves at the spa and at the same time, give back to a charitable cause of their choice.
Groups of any size – whether they are coworkers, girlfriends, couples, families, neighbors or charitable groups – are eligible to participate in the program. To book a Spa with a Purpose program, one organizer from the group will work with the spa concierge to select a date or dates. Then, members of the group call the spa at 407-996-1248 to book their individual treatments by identifying their charity and designated day(s). The Madison, Wisconsin, native joined the Rosen Hotels & Resorts team in May 2001 bringing with her a career’s worth of valuable experience. Building on a dream and watching it turn into a reality is what drives Leslie and what she loves about her job.
Between Orlando and Las Vegas, Leslie honed her career in the nation’s top two entertainment and meetings destinations. In Orlando, the entertainment capital of the Southeast, Leslie built and led Rosen Shingle Creek’s pre-opening team in marketing and selling its 1,501 guestrooms and meeting halls. After the hotel’s successful opening in Sept. 2006, Menichini created synergistic sales opportunities within Rosen Hotels & Resorts’ team of Directors of Sales and Marketing and Sales Managers. This combined responsibility led owner Harris Rosen to expand Leslie’s role to Vice President of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, Convention Properties. In addition to her current Rosen Shingle Creek sales and marketing duties, Leslie oversees the centralization and synergy efforts of Rosen Centre, Rosen Plaza, and Rosen Shingle Creek’s sales and marketing, staff development, and revenue management.
In the entertainment capital of the Southwest, Las Vegas, Leslie was Director of Sales for Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas, where she was instrumental in opening the landmark hotel. Her position progressed as the Executive Director and Corporate Liaison for Park Place Entertainment’s corporate sales office where she concentrated on synergizing five Las Vegas hotels within different brands which allowed her to develop the skills she uses to lead her team today.
To complete her well-rounded experience, Leslie was the pre- and post-opening Director of Sales at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, California, completing her 10 year with Westin Hotels & Resorts; and prior to her move to Rosen Hotels & Resorts, served as the Assistant Director of Sales at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel.
With such a professional skillset and wisdom, Leslie would like to bottle everything that she has learned over the years so that she can preserve all her cherished life experiences! Born of the passion she has for family and friends, she has never met a stranger. Balancing life the happiness of her two sons, husband, and daughter in law, last but not least her beautiful two grandchildren. She treasures the many valued industry friends she has met along the way.
Leslie loves to invite her friends and colleagues into her home at the close of a long day and as you enter you will smell the waft of garlic cooking, hear the sounds of Italian music and the wine bottle cork popping and the patter of the feet of the very happy puppies Farley and Sheldon; once you have experience this, you’ll know you have met Leslie Menichini, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and loyal partner and friend.

Once on site, he and your entire management team were very hands on and were there for all major functions and involved in solving any challenges that were presented.
Chef and his staff were incredible in preparing culinary delights for almost 2,000 people. Their presentation, whether plated or on buffet, was a work of art! The attendees all raved about the food!
